Today We Learn a New Lesson

Conflicted. That one word describes how I was feeling last night as I watched McCain's concession speech. Deeply saddened by the loss, I also felt joy at being able to say that the first African-American elected president happened in my life time.

America has come a long way in the last 100 years. One hundred years ago only men were allowed to vote and even those men had to meet certain requirements. And yet yesterday, our country voted for the first African American president. How amazing is that?

I am also saddened by the hateful comments from McCain voters along with the "in your face" type behavior from the Obama camp. Today is a new day and no matter who you voted for it's time to stop labeling yourself a Republican or a Democrat. We are all Americans and we must come together as one. Quit telling me that "the end times are near" because they are no closer then when everyone was freaking out over Y2K. And quit acting all superior because your candidate won. Guess what? He still has to prove himself. I will give him credit for creating such a wonderful voter turnout.

Now onto the issues. I believe that this election is a wake up call. Most of us have no idea what issues are being voted on in Washington until it's too late to do anything about it. We also only pick out the parts of legislation that we want or don't want and make decisions based on those facts. Seeing as how most of us don't agree with Obama's policies and ideas, we need to stand guard, pay attention, and quit resting on our butts.

When Obama takes office in January we must be diligent and look at the big picture of every bill he wants to pass. Don't just look at the here and now. Look at our future and our past. Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat themselves. So don't get mad, get active. Remember that you have a voice.

I am proud of having supported the McCain campaign. I believe that this election has taught us a lot about getting the word out there and pounding the pavement. Perhaps the next election will see more of us taking a more active roll in telling people about our candidate and what they stand for.

The next four years are going to be an eye opening experience. We must persevere and take each day with the grace in which McCain gave his concession speech. Do not get into arguments and do not call Obama the anti-Christ. Just claim to be the American you are and move on.

As for our moms for Sarah Palin site, hmmmmm, maybe we should leave it up til 2012?

I would have to say that I am also conflicted. I am terrified and at the same time a fire has ignited deep within my soul. From now on I pledge to be more involved in my party fighting for my beliefs!

I was inspired to create these last night: http://www.cafepress.com/republicanmom/6158193

I felt it was a true statement.

Thank you for your words. After so many hate filled nasty comments it's nice to receive good thoughts.

txmom, I hope your inspiration dies! We need to UNITE and not wallow in pity and in hatred! We need to respect authority even when we disagree. I encourage all of us to pray for Obama and his cabinet now more than ever.

I like this site. Many Americans were very fired up about Palin and became more politically involved than ever before. We need creative ways to continue that fervor.

I suggest we use this site to watch Obama and hold him to his word.

One such example is his first political act with the appointment of Rahm Emanuel, a Democratic elitist who doesn't have a partisan bone in his body. He worked with Clinton and it was obvious then that he leaked many things to the press in order to advance his position. He's not an honest man in my book and you can google his name and read things about him.

So Obama promised nonpartisanship. But his first act shows otherwise. I suggest a polite letter to him asking him to hold to his word and appoint Republicans and Democrats as well.

Here is a link to contact Obama:

Once again, I urge you to be respectful and polite.

Dear Madam,
Although I am an Obama supporter and do not like the idea of Sarah Palin as VP or president because I believe that she is not up to the job and never will be, I respect your views and was so refreshed when I found this blog. Although you disagree, you are not disagreeable, as the campaign slogan goes :-) From your posts, it is visible that you are a tolerant and respectful person. Thank you very much for that. Your blog and the blog "moms4sarahpalin" are like two different worlds.

Thank you Jaggie Gold for noticing this difference. So many people haven't actually read our blog but simply reacted with hate and anger.

Your words show that you judge for yourself and not by assumptions. That is quite refreshing during this time.
